Danville Youth Football
(DYF)is a nonprofit, volunteer youth football
and cheer organization serving the children of the Danville Independent
School District. Students are eligible to participate in football
from age 6-12 and in cheerleading from age 5-12.
DYF
operates through the Danville Independent
School System and the Danville High School Athletic
Department. Accordingly, DYF is committed to providing a
youth football program commensurate to the tradition of our
high school counterpart, the Danville Admirals.
We hope that your family
will join us as we endeavor to teach
football and cheerleading with an emphasis on enjoyment,
sportsmanship and sound character.
Improvements
& Upcoming Events for the 2010!
After four years of
hard work DYF has its feet squarely up under
itself and now we are ready to take our youth
football program way beyond any ever offered in
the area! Here are just some of the things DYF
participants have to look forward to in 2010:
1.
New
Pee Wee & Tom Thumb Uniforms: It's official!
The Pee Wee and Tom Thumb divisions will wear
new uniforms with new Admiral Silver Riddell
helmets with royal blue facemasks, royal jerseys
and silver pants. Mighty Mites will
continue to wear navy blue with white helmets
for a season or two until our new inventory of
navy blue jerseys need be replaced. The
new color scheme will be the same as the picture
at the left. The helmets will be custom
painted by Riddell with the exact shade of
silver in this picture. Jerseys will be solid
royal with an improved print which will include DANVILLE across the
chest and an anchor on the sleeves! I hope that our PW and TT players will be
excited about these new uniforms and I hope that
our MM players will look toward working their
way up to the higher divisions with anticipation
of receiving these awesome customized helmets
and awesome uniforms. Never will a youth team
from Danville have been decked out so well...
there's never been anything close to this!!!!!
2.
5th Annual DHS Youth Football Camp:
May 2010.
Learn football from 7-time high school state
champion coach Sam Harp and his coaching staff!
Free onsite registration. Free camp
t-shirts. There's no better way for your
young football player to learn the fundamentals
of the game than from Coach Harp himself.
May 2010.
3. Night Games at
Admiral Stadium:
Each DYF team have a chance to
play a night football game on the Danville
Admiral Football Field! Imagine playing
under the lights on one of the best high school
football stadiums in the state! That is a
big deal to a little kid! Walking out on
that big field, looking up in the stands,
running into the locker room at halftime.
If that doesn't make you want to be an Admiral I
don't know what will!
4.
Spring Flag Football:
Register by mail March 1 - March 27. Season
Runs April 12 - May 22.. Teams will practice
once a week and play a game once a week.
Practices will be limited to 1.5 hours. Teams
will consist of approximately 10 boys and girls
in the same age groups as our tackle football
league. Every player will have the chance to run
or catch the ball during the game. Flag is a
great introduction to the sport of football and
a great introduction to the sport for children
hesitant to play tackle football. Emphasis will
be on having fun, equal participation and
learning basic skills. This league will
not conduct a postseason and will not keep
season records. If your children aren't
involved with any sport in the spring you
definitely need to get them out with us for some
exercise. Our kids are too plugged in, get
them away from the TV and outside playing ball!
5: DYF Cheerleading Camp:
TBA
6. Preseason Pool Party:
As a registered DYF participant
you and your family are invited to the DYF
President's Preseason Pool & Pizza Party.
I'll rent out the pool at Anderson-Dean Park
just for our league! The place is awesome!
27 foot double-loop water slide, in-water
playground that sprays water everywhere, diving
boards. This place is a lot of fun!
You do not want to
miss this! We'll have pizza and drinks
too! What a way to kick of a youth sports
season!
7. Player Referral
Program: Now
you can earn
prizes or registration discounts by
signing-up new DYF
players! Get a new player to
signup in 2nd – 6th
grade & get a $10 registration fee
reduction or a $10 Wal-Mart gift card.
Players must reside in the Danville
School District or attend the Danville
Schools and must not have played
football last season in any league.
8.
DYF Punt, Pass and Kick Contest: Friday,
June 25, 6:00 PM at the DHS practice field.
3 age groups: 8-9, 10-11, 12-13. Trophies
for top 3 finishers in each age group. Door

a fun evening of football.

spread the word about Danville Youth Football.

the way...
10.
There's more:

the upcoming spring flag football season,
upcoming fundraiser events and new league
programs and events as they develop. We will
remain active year round. Keep up with
what's next right here.
Hydration Guidelines
To
insure proper hydration for youth athletes it is
important that they drink sufficient water to
replace fluid lost during activity. Thirst is not a
good indicator of hydration needs.
Children need to drink water routinely.
Thirty minutes prior to practice and games children
should drink 12-16 ounces of water. During activity,
periodic drinking should be enforced regardless of thirst. Every 20 minutes the
athlete should consume: 5 ounces of fluid for
individuals weighing 90 lbs or less
and 9 ounces of fluid for individuals weighing more than
90 lbs.
After
activity drinking should continue every 20 minutes
for an hour. Continue drinking water throughout the
day while minimizing consumption of soft drinks.
A
pale yellow urine stream is a good indicator of
proper hydration. A dark yellow urine stream is
indicative of dehydration.

Christmas Parade Entry
Friday, December 4 - Yes
Virginia, Santa is an Admiral Fan!
The boys and girls of Danville Youth Football
participated in the 2009 Christmas Parade with a Danville High School
Football themed float depicting the school's ten
state football championships as Christmas
presents from Santa Claus.
Riding on the float were former state champion
Admirals Bill Critchfield from 1962, Eric Alcorn
from 1984, Don Harris from 1987 and 1989, and
Jose Pope from the 1991, 1992 and 1994 state
championship teams.
Santa Claus showed his true colors as he sported
a blue Admiral jersey over the top of his
traditional red suit. Santa Claus was
played by DYF assistant coach Sean Adams. The
float was pulled by Michael Thorton, a 1994
state champion, in his Admiral blue Dodge pickup
truck.
The DYF float was awarded first place in the
non-commerical division of the float
competition.
DYF cheerleaders and football players walked
behind the float, led in cheers by DYF
Cheerleading Director Dana Pope, while handing out candy canes and
carrying banners which read "Danville Youth
Football & Cheerleading" and "Merry
Christmas."
Thank you to Danny Gadberry, Jon Kuchenbrod,
Dana Pope, Donny, Karen & Zach Dampier and Don Harris for their hard work
in constructing the float. Jon Kuchenbrod
spent days constructing the ten large presents
that represented Danville's ten state
championships, as well as side frames on the
float.
Thank you to our parents who pitched in to add finishing
touches at the last minute and to those who
donated candy canes. We appreciate
everyone's help!

More Than A Game
Football is a great deal like life in that it
teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance,
competitive drive, selflessness and respect for
authority is the price that each and every one of us
must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.
